Jerry Barnhart


Deputy Chief Jerry Barnhart began his distinguished public service career in 1996 with the Atlantic City Police Department. Over the course of 25 years, he held a wide range of leadership roles across the Operations, Investigations, and Support Services Divisions. He also served for 17 years on the department’s Bomb Squad, including 14 years as the Bomb Squad Commander. Throughout his tenure, Deputy Chief Barnhart cultivated strong relationships with community members, business owners, stakeholders, and government officials, reinforcing his commitment to public safety and civic collaboration.
Following his retirement in 2021, Deputy Chief Barnhart continued to serve the law enforcement community as Chief Instructor at the Atlantic County Police Academy. He currently leads the Special Improvement District Division of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority in Atlantic City, where he remains focused on community development and public service.
Deputy Chief Barnhart holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University, is a Certified Public Manager through the Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration and is a graduate of Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command (Class #457).
